Solitude

Sitting right there all by myself in my room again today against my reading table (my favorite spot as I would always call it) I pulled out my parasitology textbook to do a little revision on what I’d studied the day before. This has been my routine since I resumed the university and it has so far been yielding positive results with my Wonderful test scores bearing witnesses for me in “Samaria and judea”. I had earlier discussed within myself to resort to occasional solitude right before I had resumed; to make the Best out of my studies till I’m done schooling.Personally I think this is one of the superb decisions I’ve made, and I’m certain of positive outcome.
A particular English lexicon describes solitude as a disposition towards being alone and an isolation of oneself. This could however be for several purposes depending on individual reasons; but then this art called solitude can be a great tool for achieving immense success.
A lot of imaginations and inventions have been birthed in solitude.Take for instance, the famous physicist; Isaac Newton who discovered gravitational effect and propounded the popular laws of gravity. It was said, that he observed the gravitational effect while watching an apple fruit fall from a tree. It is important to note here that, this entire event didn’t occur while he was in some sort of chatter with his friends or other company, but during a careful observation while alone. Many other scholars today and great individuals have an understanding of this art called solitude and have been able to utilize it properly for success. Little wonder, monks are taken far away from human habitation to a place where there’s tranquility and adequate serenity for meditation.
It is undoubtedly very germane to learn to imbibe the culture of solitude and apply it often;as it gives you the opportunity for proper consideration of personal matters as well as apt decision making and most importantly;self discovery.
It may be argued that solitude has more negative effects and hence should be discouraged, but then a particular quote explains that; there’s a difference between loneliness and solitude, while one will empty you the other will fill you, You alone have the power to choose! Loneliness is bad, solitude isn’t! These two should however not be confused with each other. Laurence sterne said” In solitude the mind gains strength and learns to lean upon itself” Solitude doesn’t bring negative effects, loneliness does. The power of solitude cannot be overemphasized.
Solitude produces great and wonderful ideologies as well as inventions and is effective for a productive life. Reduce unecessary chatter and company today and embrace full time self Discovery by retiring to solitude! For “without great solitude no serious work is possible” -pablo Picasso.
