Sexual Violence and Rape

Sexual violence is any sexual act or attempt to obtain sex forcibly by violence or coercion against a person’s will or with an underaged individual.
Rape is forced,  unwanted sexual intercourse – both men and women of any age can be raped. Rape occurs when a person penetrates another’s vagina, anus or mouth with bodily parts such as the penis or other objects, without the other person’s consent.

As a person, do you think there’s a solution to the problem of sexual violence and rape?

Definitely…

Many solutions.

But none work perfectly.

And even if all were combined… They still wouldn’t work perfectly

1. Self control
2. Teaching people to respect other people and their bodies
3. Capital or hard punishment
4. Communication development
5. Decency where applicable
6. Avoiding dangerous looking situations where the case may be
-There’s more because rape is more complicated than we make it seem
I’ll explain all.

1. *Self Control:* anyone who is taught to control their libido, be it through prayer, masturbation or what not is less likely to engage in rape or sexual violence. (Unfortunately some people know how to control it but still rape for other reasons that will be stated on this list).

2. *Respecting Other Bodies:* some people need to understand that because a lady is your wife, or a man is your husband that they must be forced into sex. If your spouse doesn’t give you the satisfaction you want, talk over it or divorce if possible. (People still know about this and could give in due to lack of self control or an endangering sense of entitlement)

3. *Capital Or Hard Punishment* : People that are caught in rape should be punished severely. By the time the consequences of their choice in action rings in their head, they’d have reason to desist. (These punishments exist but people still end up with the raping and molestation because they believe they can get away with it)

4. *Communication Development* : One of the most important deterrents. Many people that go through rape or feel violated do not report their abusers for various understandable reasons or do not even tell their abusers they feel violated ; in spousal relationships. They don’t understand that noone else can know about it if they don’t report it. It might take a lot of courage and people might not believe it at first but the earlier it is reported, the better (some people communicate about their abusers but the abusers could be in a position of power in which nothing is eventually done).

5. *Decency where applicable* : Indecent dressing in ways makes one less of a target to predators. As much as many rush to deny this, we all can’t deny that exposed skin is more of an eye grabber than covered skin. And if there’s rapist scum in the vicinity, whoever isn’t decently dressed would be easy for them to spot. Decency is also relative to location. (People out there still rape small kids and well covered people, due to other factors that may have already been mentioned)

6. *Avoiding Dangerous Situations* : Someone makes you feel uncomfortable or passing a particular place makes you feel uneasy, try to avoid it. It may not always be easy but one has to be alert because There will always be bad people in the World.
(Sometimes the people who rape are the most unexpected)

(You can only try so much, pray… Beg… Cry… Evil still exists. People know that rape is bad, and still do it as all other evils)

I don’t think there’s any solution to that cause it has to do with the mind and mentality of the offenders…
The only solution is 4 parents to train their child/children from a very young age to know that rape/sexual violence is very bad…

And this sexual violence/rape goes both ways not only women get violated…
I was molested at a very young age and till date I can’t get it off my head…

My opinion is that parents should learn enlighten their child/children about all these stuff b4 it’s too late…

Personally, I believe there’s a solution. It lies within each individual – self control.

Once every individual learns to exercise control over his/her desires, a lot of vices in our society, these inclusive, will be abated.

The only problem now is that we love to indulge every desire that pops us and that’s ruining the society at large.

Another solution would be to censor the explicit contents on the media as this is were one gets exposed to sexually alluring images that they might want to try out.

But since this is almost as good as not possible as the media is really vast, we’re left with the first solution, self control…exercising great control over what we expose our faculties to, what we consume.

I’m with this person. But maybe the death penalty isn’t really necessary🤷🏽‍♂️just feed him to dogs,
I saw a video where dogs were eating this guy’s private part while he was screaming and was helpless. Maybe something like that would help🤷🏽‍♂️
I’m just saying, killing them might not really teach some lesson. Leave some good mark on their body. One they’ll live long to remember
Coz their victims are always gonna be afflicted by such memories

I believe a strong punishment will do. Law enforcement is just the only “trustable” method.
People don’t go into fire because they know they would burn right?
Let raping someone be seen as putting one’s head into a terrible blazing fire. Is anyone even tempted to put a finger into fire? No!
The only disadvantage of a strong punishment is that sometimes the wrong person may be severely.. but still they should enforce harsh punishment on Rapists!!!
A dog eating a man’s penis is not even enough match for the pains and humiliations a person who is raped encounters. But we can settle for that one🤝🏽a rapist should not be treated with mercy. God punish you more if you even ask for mercy.
The only solution is a punishment equivalent to being in hell!!!
Because they all know that raping is wrong. They kno it’s even the worst of sins and they still do it, why? Because they are getting away with it.

I think part of the solution is imposing stricter punishments on offenders like life imprisonment, no bail or immediate death execution

I don’t think it’s too harsh cause the victims live with the emotional trauma forever, why should the offenders just serve some years and get on with their lives

Some of these victoms are underage and most suffer from depression ,suicidal attempts, pregnancy, STI’s, their grades drop, stigma(though there really shouldn’t be any but it’s the society we are)

Also health workers should really change their approach and be more sensitive to these things 😕
Some people can be really unethical at times, imagine a trained health worker asking the victim if she “let the offender ejaculate in her”
That’s just a sickening thing to say.

Yes, honestly speaking both genders are to be denounced………But the females should take good care of how they dress/appear because desire and love are natural and sometimes uncontrollable.

At times, even when someone doesn’t have interest/feelings towards a girl, her mode of dressing makes her attractive and beautifies the evil in her which pleases him, and makes him releases a hormone that never misses its target.

Other guys with an upside kind of thinking do approach girls to rape them due to how they feel or what they see in them. That’s tragic and excruciating.

In my perspective, the girl should be properly dressed, and guys should bear in mind that whatever you did to someone’s daughter must be done to yours too.

For why there is no right in doing wrong, nor wrong in doing right……I think that will put an end to the case above.

I totally understand your point but a girl should never be seen as a sex object, and nobody should dictate how she should dress, it’s normal for a guy to feel sexually attracted to a lady when they see her, but they should not think with their private organ, so you say girls dress indecently, what about guys with our shorts and sleeveless dresses? Flaunting our legs and our abs to them, they feel attracted to us too but they do not allow their desire to becloud their reasoning.
So that idea of them stopping indecent dressing is a NO.

Yes there are a good amount of solutions that can be used to stop sexual violence and rape, but then the country doesn’t think that these crimes are serious enough. You go to the police station to report that you’ve been raped and you hear things like, “She’s acting as if she didn’t enjoy it.” Not to talk of the pedophiles and perpetrators of sexual crimes that make up the government.

Some people dont think people should suffer gravely for raping, they still tag it a ‘mistake’ or the work of the devil. That’s why this country has only 18 convictions of rape since she got her independence.

You can’t successfully profer solutions in a place that does not fully recognize the problem.

Indecent dressing attract guys most. Though, it’s true that decent girls were raped also (with reason known to the rapists) but I’m sure most of the girls being raped dress indecently. Most girls expose Their private parts in the name of fashion. with this, you get more attraction from guys (and some guys aren’t able to control themselves). If we all dress decently, I believe the rape case will reduce

I don’t think this is a point…someone who has no self control is someone who has no self control. Nobody would preach poverty or living like Ebenezer Scrooge to keep thieves away. There should be no reason for violating someone especially not one as flimsy as what they were wearing

I’m not against your point but I’ll like to share a story with you (it’s a true life story o). I have a friend, she was once the type of girl who dress to kill (seductively) before God finally take control over her life. Her mum wouldn’t allow her to wear trousers then but she’d make sure her clothes are as revealing as possible. She get much attention from guys(which she said made her feel like she was doing the right thing , little did she know the implication. (Though she’s not the type who visit guys o but she was always invited with reasons known to the guys) . she said everything change after she relocated and change the way she dresses (she get almost no attention from guys anymore). Because she change the way she dress. The only male friends she have now are just reading mate. She hardly get calls from guys anymore (though, she hasn’t be raped before o). But what I’m trying to say is that indecent dressing attract guys the most .

Guys walk around showing calves and check hair and abs and we’ve never heard of anyone being sexually assaulted because of it. Your clothing should be a form of self expression not a reason to be disrespected or violated.

Attraction is attraction whether you beat the boy that said attraction is a factor or not.

Some do it because of uncontrolled attraction and some because of wickedness.

There’s a solution to rape, and it has to be from the home, men should do away with their “almost misogyny” views and parents should reach the boys never to see girls as a sex object or think of them as a lesser being, I think the best solution has to start from the home and a little bit of gender equality(let’s not go deeper abeg)😑
Men get raped too(no one’s arguing that fact) but let’s face the fact that women are more at risk of being raped and should be helped as soon as possible.

I mean that, issues like this do not usually have solutions at least no absolute remedy.

If we look at the root of what causes these crimes we’ll see that the causes are numerous and even mostly it goes beyong the sexual advantage. Most times it is rooted in the fact that the strong always feels he can overpower the weak, he can do and undo.

Even during the times of prophets crimes were commited.

My point is that we should dig more into the causes and profer individual solutions, having in mind that this stuff cannot be eradicated.

Rape is not a thing of the physical
It’s a psychological sickness that eats at the mind of the victim.
Decency and morality has never prevented rape. Yes it might take the rapists eyes off you but that’s not a guarantee.
Rapists are psychopaths who most times thrive and feed off their victim’s pain
They get aroused when they’re taking by force, like the thrill of taking what’s not theirs.
Decent dressing doesn’t hide a pretty face, a smart mind,a witty personality or even a beautiful shape and different rapists are attracted to different things, so that logic is lousy and hurtful to the victims. Yes we should be careful, dress well, blablabla but if a rapist targets you, whether he has been stalking you or it’s during a robbery incident that they see you, you’re a target simple. Only God’s protection is what saves you and not just self defense. Without rapists, there won’t be rape, without paedophiles there won’t be pedophilia and that’s period…anyother side attack on the victimized gender just sounds like rape defense. These demons rape from months old babies to women of 70. That writer is pretty much an illiterate and I won’t apologise for it. Do your Google research, listen to your news and if you still think this way, you need help.

The justice for rape is castration and ostracism because death is never enough to erase the trauma of rape. Families should start ingraining this information to their children of all genders, telling them the evils and repercussions of doing such act as well as protective measures to “try” to avoid being a victim.
It’s a traumatizing action right? Good, others will be scared to put their fingers and penis as well as vagina where they don’t belong. Women were raped in the bible days so dressing is out of the question you ignoramus

I counter people saying indecent dressings cause the rape ish…Guys tend to sag, reveal the upper part of their body, do some other stuffs to their body which might look arousing to their female counterparts yet none has been raped well, yet….i feel ladies have right to wear anything they wish tho…indecent or decent…Indecent dressings shouldnt be a reason to rape.
Rapists are just psychotic.
You dont need to dress decently to be raped by a psychotic rapist. It’s a thing of the mind.
We should all just learn about “Consent”
BTW, i’m a guy too.

Sincerely there is solution to the problem of sexual violence and rape..

This problem is in 2 phase which are:
1. Indecent/inappropriate dressing ( females)
2. Inability to control oneself (male & female)

I know some of us would have heard of older women raping younger male but it’s not that common…

1. Indecent/inappropriate dressing: this is mainly for female when it comes to rape issue and this is the act of the female not dressing properly by revealing the sensitive part of her body e.g boobs, cleavages, thighs, waist and so on. This is more rampant in our society especially this generation because I asked my mom about this rape issue during her young days, she said they hardly hear of rape issue which means indecent dressing is one of the major reason why rape occurs which will lead to inability to control oneself. God create us in a way that when we see the sensitive part of ourselves, our body release some hormones in which the body makes some movement but we can’t blame God but the society. Some ladies knew that what they wear isn’t appropriate but because of what is called “fashion”, they destroy themselves. You can be a fashionista and still not reveal sensitive part of your body..

2. Inability to control oneself (both gender): the reason why I had to put both gender into it is that there are some women who rape too, inability to control oneself when you see these sensitive part is the major part.. fine, some people have high libido but why don’t they go fo therapy sessions. Alhajas, kids and oldies are raped due to inability to control oneself and some other reasons like evil act, the lady offended me, wickedness. I have seen a situation whereby, a girl of 3 years old is raped by her step father, what should we call that, is it wickedness, inability to control his genital part or evil act or what? And I have also seen a woman of 40 years old forcing a boy of 10 to sleep with her that she is so horny, I was so ashamed of what our society is turning into..

Judgement:1. whoever that forces the other gender for sex should be killed immediately without mercy and a footage should be done to watch after killing him/her

2. Whoever that tries to and get caught should use rest of his/her days in the prison with hard labour

With that, the population will reduce in Nigeria and that will be a lesson to all..

I rest my case

Rape actually is not something we can pray away,is not something we can talk away,it is something we should act away!,
First rape is not a specific gender problem,it is a general gender problem, just that the ratio of female to male is higher, but the punishment should be the same.

Sometimes, rape is a psychological issue, sometimes it is an habit, sometimes it is plain wickedness, sometimes it spiritual problem, sometimes we just don’t know..
Indecent dressing could be a cause of rape, but not every case,I understand that our hormones doesn’t agree with us sometimes but raping a girl child or a boy girl because they got your attraction and you couldn’t control your hormones to listen to your command, such act should be a punishable by death,we didn’t create ourselves, our body doesn’t grow on our command,it doesn’t stay in that particular shape you admire so much on our command, some work it out, some are just gifted with it,so I see no reason why you should rape us on that account,(I was harassed last week Wednesday, because this certain computer village guy liked my shape,my ass and he decided to feel it,don’t lemme go into details about this, but I don’t work out,I was created like that,so is it my fault I look like that,I was emotionally drained after that incident,Note:I wasn’t dressed indecently),we are in a system when a lady is told what to wear and how to dress, but our men are not trained on morals etiquette, they are not trained on respecting a woman’s body, on mentality check that she looks nice and yummy doesn’t mean she is a definite target for rape, check your self brother, you’re the problem, have sense!

Joseph Beulah
Joseph Beulah

Also, the so called pedophiles that are working around amidst human, honestly pedophiles cannot be cured of this psychological disorder, it can only be corrected, and that is only if they want to,it can’t be forced, anyway their punishment shouldn’t be reduced because they have a mental issue,I know most people would see this haha he has a mental issue na,but since he knows he has an issue and he doesn’t find fun in it,he should seek medical attention and get corrected, now what about the child, the trauma, the emotional breakdown, should they just be corrected and bailed out, (baba ijesha issue with a 14year old girl child, imagine the trauma the child would be going through right now)..
Just think about it..

Now it been an habit, this ones are sex addict, they want it every time, either by force or with permission, they just want it,this are usually the ones that give the excuse that she open breast na,I con look and I no fit control myself, this ones could do it to any age range, child, teenager, youth, elder etc…

This ones also sometimes have a mental issue but not all!!!
Still punishable by death!!!

Rape is a very sensitive topic and shouldn’t be taken with minimal attention,we need everything we have in our power to fight it,moral training, early training on sex education both for a male child and a female child,an active punishment and don’t forget to always pray and be Safe!!
Take precautions and honestly with this precautions it only God that can keep us safe…
I dream of founding an NGO that would Include eradicating things like this, so help me God

Dressing indecently is not the major problem here, guys should also learn to control themselves, girls. Ladies and women are not instruments of sexual gratification that you can simply use and dump.
No victim ever asked for rape, it’s a terrible thing that no one wants. So you can’t say a victim asked for it because of improper dressing.

We need to train our future children, both boys and girls because these days boys are also raped. We all need self control!

If we’re ever going to end rape there has to be accountability equally on both sides. Both men and women, boys and girls need to be taught boundaries and respect for themselves and for others

I do think there is a solution. I think the solution is death of the perpetrator. If the penalty is high enough the rapist would think really well before doing it, and not just death…painful death, death by a thousand cuts, if it were up to me, I’d prefer for the rapist to be raped repeatedly and violated first, harsh, I know, but very efficient. Rapist should not be justified or excused, or defended. The rapist rapes, there is no other reason. No indecent dressing rubbish or she asked for it. The trauma the victim would go through is unimaginable, and the rapist will still go scot free in most places, especially where I am now. So death of the rapist is a good solution in my humble opinion.

It’s funny how girls think that dressing doesn’t matter…

They tell guys to control demselves and they try to find more reasons to justify their insanity….

If dressing doesn’t matter, why do they tell their female friends never to wear revealing dresses to their weddings??

Coz they’re scared of loosing their husbands to friends???

Dressing matters as well…its one of the thousands of reasons why rape happens….

I’ve heard girls discuss and tell themselves things they can do to a guy, if he looks a particular way…. A lady literally said she would go crazy and give any man(who has 6pacs and wearing an exposed shirt) enough sex if he needs it… When you see this lady, she looks soo responsible…..

I’m seriously boiling due to the level of indecency in our society today….

Once again, Dressing matters but not dressing alone..

You are confusing.
Your content literally told us that dressing doesn’t matter because those that look responsible on the outside can be very thirsty on the inside.
We say dressing doesn’t matter because even those dresses in full hijab regalia can be sexually harassed and those that cover up full have been raped, after all loose formless skirts that conceal the figure are easier to pull up to go about with your sin.
Dressing contributes a little bit but it is negligible because in the end, to rape someone is a choice that both genders make but there is higher precedence of males doing the raping

And for the lady that cautioned her friend, that just shows she has no trust in her husband. What if she wore the clothes to attract a sugar daddy from the guests. She doesn’t trust her hubby, but she doesn’t want to say that so she cautions the friend instead

I know of an area in PH where this rape issue was very rampant. Girls live in constant fear, one time they caught one of the rapists and guess what the women in the area did? They boiled hot water and the area bouncers poured it on the guy’s penis. And the rape issue subsided. The effect was obvious, the guy is carrying the scar everyday, same as the victim.
Every problem in Nigeria has a solution, we just have a bad administration and government that don’t care about the people.
God save us

Islamic principles are set in such a way that crimes as these are given strict punishment (called huduud), so it may serve as a warning to others who have like minds and also for it to serve as expiation (kaffaara) for the culprits.

It is true that the victim will have a “forever-scar” but nevertheless, it lessens some pains when such victims know that justice has been meted out to whosoever did them injustice.

This justice that Islam brought about in its jurisdiction is seen as barbaric by major world orders and they’ve chosen to make laws themselves ie the laws of Islam are not for the whole world, they’re only peculiar to Muslims🤷🏽‍♀️ [I wouldn’t like to go too deep in this].

Main point is, when a rapist does the act, if such a rapist is unmarried, Islam states that he should be flogged 100 strokes of cane (not baby-ish canes) and then sent on exile, away from his family and place of living, and the rapist should not take anything along with him.

If the rapist is married, Islam legislates he be stoned to death.

This punishment, like I said earlier serves as a warning to others and an expiation for the culprit’s sin.

Honestly, rape is all about self control and empathy. Those that do it are either psychopaths that get off on dominating and causing pain or people without self-control and empathy. Dressing is a negligible factor and society has shown that females have more self-control than males if not the incidence of females raping buys would be higher. Instead males rape both females and their fellow guys. Why? You can’t say the boy dressed provocatively or was asking for it. As for the whole showing your private part stuff, the private part I know is the vagina that is covered up by panties. Should girls suffer in shapeless thick and long materials even in hot weather because they are scared, LIVING IN FEAR is tiring.

And what of the babies or old ladies raped. There is no excuse for that, no reason brought up that can excuse that sin.

Solution is not perfect, but societal problems rarely are

1. Early education
2. Self-control
3. Harsh punishment to defaulters because there will always be defaulters, some people just want to discard morality. And rape is also a useful torture tool that hits both physically and mentally, so i doubt it’ll ever be truly discarded

Well it’ll be quite insensitive to publicly acclaim that there’s no possible solution to this misdemeanor. But, regrettably, we will continue to have a plethora of these occurrences.
There are several factors that engender sexual abuse.
(1) Streetism, alcoholism, depletion of moral ethics.
(2) Unanticipated exposition.
(3) Insensitiveness of individuals to the reality of the tendency of environmental equilibrium.
Now, I think it’s noteworthy for us to acknowledge the fact that nature and the environment cannot be cheated. It shall deal back to us equal measures we’ve dealt it.
Practically everything in today’s environment- music, movies, books even associations directly or indirectly preaches female sexual objectification. I mean, what is the correlation between a half nude woman and the company that produces matches?
Our minds have become and continues to be so corrupt and elated by sexual ideas that the slope of people’s sexual urges will continue to rise sharply. An average teenager today has access to pornographic- both pure ponography and conventional movies- contents and he constantly keeps investing these things into his mind. The time comes when he unavoidably has to exercise the expertise he has learnt and his mind has become so bankrupt, coupled with the influence of certain other environmental loopholes such as bad peer group that he doesn’t deem it bad to sexually abuse.
Fearfully, this trend has come to stay and this can be reversed only if we try to in a way constrain people’s access to certain sexual enlightenments and also reduce the level which women are objectified in music, movies and what have you.
I want to believe this wasn’t the trend in past centuries.
This isn’t an absolute antidote though as there have been very bizarre cases of sexual abuse.

Rape has been going onn before we were born.
What about the kidnapper , armed robber ,cultist and so on
There are still ongoing even though there is a punishment from the law.

Well, as matter of fact, sexual violence and repe is not something that can easily be eradicated entirely, but it can definitely be minimised drastically if we all have the positive mindset and incoporate equally to get rid of it.

Both males and females, the society and the government authorities have a role to play in order to eradicate this

Before then, let begin by trying to let the ladies understand that seductive dress really attracts sexual abuse.

Here we go:

TO THE LADIES, a must read truth
A group of ladies arrived the church, wearing clothes that were quite revealing. Here is what the pastor did. He took a good look at them and made them sit. Then he said something that they might never forget for the rest of their lives.
He looked at them straight in the eyes and said,
”Ladies, everything that God made valuable in this world is well covered and hard to see, find or get.
1.Where do you find diamonds? Deep down in the ground, covered and protected.
2. Where do you find pearls? Deep down at the bottom of the ocean, covered up and protected in a beautiful shell.
3. Where do you find gold? Way down in the mine, covered with layers of rock and to get them, you have to work hard and dig deep down to get them.
He looked at them with serious eyes and said,”You are far more precious than gold, diamonds and pearls, and you should be covered too” He added, “if you keep your treasured minerals just like gold, diamonds and pearls deeply covered up, a reputable mining company with the requisite machinery will fly down and conduct years of extensive exploration.
First, they will contact your government (family), sign contracts (wedding) and mine you professionally & legally marriage).
But if you leave your precious minerals uncovered on the surface of the earth, you always attract a lot of illegal miners to come and mine you illegally.
Keep your bodies deeply covered so that it will invite professional miners to chase you.
Moral Lesson: DRESS WELL and refrain from SEXUAL IMMORALITY
God bless you! Copied!

The above story is very related to the ongoing trend that’s why i decided to bring it up.

Morever, studies have shown that men responds more to visual sexual stimulation than women do.

Some ladies would say that men should control themselves, oh yeah its true, and rats should control themselves as well, you cant keep an open meat where rats are and quote that they have no right over that meat…

Another, important issue is that there should be boundaries between the opposite genders,

The government authorities can also help in reducing this sexual violence by implementing strict laws against production and publication of sexual contents…

Its very disheartening that most of the movies, films, magazine, online ads, websites and so on, hardly will you find one that do not portray sexual contents,
Making sexual immorality a norm.

This is one the greatest harm the Western society has caused us. Especially to the ladies, sexual immorality and seductive dresses are now norms and fashion… And its an almost inrevocable impact.

Last but not the least is immense punishment upon the culprits!.
